is the workshop where I make handmade felt.
Felt is a material which is not woven, to make it
you don't use a loom, it's not knitted or
crocheted but it's made by working carded
wool (not spun) using only your hands along with
the help of hot water and soap. You massage it,
press it and give it shape, even three-dimensional, with no need to sew.
The wool fibres intertwine, shrink and give life to either a strong and dense fabric, or a thin and light one, they follow the will of the person working it but also wool’s own nature.
The finished result is always unique; each piece is one of a kind.
Some items are made with a technique that allows you to join the felt to other materials, such as silk, without resorting to stitching. What you obtain is a soft, seamless, light and smooth material called "nuno felt".
